The external application I'm trying to get in a page section does not show anything, not even when I put plain text in it (like a title).

When I add the same application to a page it does work.

So could anyone tell me if this is expected behavior? If so, is there some way to get an external application in a page section?

My setup:
Local installation of WM 9.7.2 on Vista x64.

Is the logfile giving any hint?

If not, increase the loglevel. If something goes wrong I bet you'll find a message about it telling you what's the matter.

This is what tomcat is showing me after I turn on debug and debig content in the external application (80754 is the page section):

WARNING: DebugMessage: Template (457: ss_section-edit_pageview_item), baseobject (79378: Home): Core Library.getAssignment: Object (0) is null (dotExpression = general.preview)

The application uses some asp to contact another database, it only has one if/else statement, the fact that it does work in a page is strange.

Are you using "Application integration"? In that case your URL must contain the /web/show/applications path, otherwise the Application integration feature will not kick in. Your page probably contains this path, and the page containing your page section doesn't.

Yes, using 'Application integration'.

Also see that the page does have /applications/ in the path.

The page section is shown on the homepage and indeed no /application/ in the URL. But when I add the page section to the page that does have /application/ in the URL it doesn't do anything either. This page now contains two of the same applications, one in the content and one in the page sections.

No experience with "Application integration" myself, but the page section part not working as expected sounds familiar. Could it be that your page section is handled through the ssi mechanism, resulting in an URL without the /web/show/applications path?

Just speculation, but perhaps worth investigating.
